On Saturday, September 1, we took our first pregnancy test. Positive. But we've had a false positive before so we tried to keep our excitement in check. A week later we took our second test. Positive—we're going to have a baby!

Klos Calls
First off, it has been extremely difficult to be with family and friends and not be able to share the good news. We wanted our parents to be the first to know. Ryan's folks would be having grandchild number 13. Mine will be working on number two. My sister Lauren will be an aunt for the first time. I am thankful that God has blessed us with such a large family.

The day after we took our second test, Val (our sister-in-law) asked Ryan why he got his haircut—were we pregnant or did he loose the weight he committed to losing in order to get his hair cut. Uh oh. Thankfully Ryan lost the weight because he got his hair cut before we knew we were pregnant.

Two days later Drew (Ryan's brother / Val's husband) emailed Ryan to ask if we were pregnant. Ryan knew if he called him he'd spill the beans. As much as we wanted to share our excitement, we planned to wait until after our first doctor's appointment (Sept. 28) and to tell our parents.

Spilling the Beans
As creative individuals, we have the fun task of "spill the beans" in a unique way. We spent a couple days brainstorming and came up with an idea for a pregnancy announcement that we could mail to our parents and siblings. If time allows this week, they might actually get the news before our first appointment. (Announcement will be posted upon completion.)

About the Baby
This week I will be entering my eighth week of pregnancy. Our due date is May 17, 2008 ... about the same week that Ryan is due to graduate from grad school. It will be quite an exciting time in our lives.

At eight weeks the baby is about the size of a coffee bean, has a heartbeat twice as fast as mine, and has the beginnings of her arms, legs and vocal chords. The first ten weeks are the most crucial during pregnancy, so we ask for your prayers that the baby will continue to develop healthily. Please also pray that I will be able to get the rest I need as we are away from home 12 hours a day with work.
